“一去二三里, 烟村四五家(One, two and three miles to go; Four or five hamlets in haze.)” This is a sentence from the ancient Chinese poem Ode to the Vill (《山村咏怀》), which is read fluently in Chinese by Thai students of the overseas branch of Liaoning Petrochemical College through online classes. Affected by the epidemic, Thai students can’t come to China to study. The teaching team of Chinese as a foreign language (CFL) and petrochemical courses of the college carries out online teaching in the “Internet +” pattern by virtue of Tangfeng International Education Cloud platform, live recording system and DingTalk APP.

“Sino-Thai Petrochemical International College”, an overseas branch of Liaoning Petrochemical College, was established in December 2020 by Liaoning Petrochemical College in cooperation with Thai Madaput Technical College. It is the first overseas branch of higher vocational colleges of Liaoning Province, creating a precedent for higher vocational colleges in Liaoning Province to enroll international students with full-time academic education. With 19 Thai international students enrolled in the first batch, the overseas campus implements the cooperative school-running pattern of CCTE Sino-Thai dual degrees, which is characterized by the combination of language, culture, skill and employment. The cooperative parties jointly formulate the Cultivation Program for International Students Majoring in Petrochemical Technology and determine the talent cultivation objectives of the cooperative education. Credit mutual recognition and curriculum co-construction are implemented, “1 + 2” model is adopted, and a batch of high-quality skilled talents serving the “Belt and Road” initiative and the “Thailand 4.0 Program” are jointly cultivated and trained with Thailand. The college’s national teacher training base and national demonstration internship training base provide professional training for teachers and students of Madaput Technical College to enhance the level of Thai professional teachers. Collective teaching and research of professional courses are carried out, curriculum construction of Production Technology of Fuel Oil, an international quality course project for Sino-Thai integration of enterprises with vocational colleges, is conducted, education model of “Chinese language+vocational skills” is developed, and the innovation of textbooks is implemented, in a bid to cultivate excellent international skilled talents who both meet the needs of industry development and know Chinese language well.

Taking Sino-Thai Petrochemical International College as the carrier, the college constantly enhances teaching concepts, optimizes specialty settings and expands cooperative channels, with the aim of cultivating international technical and skilled talents and serving “going out” enterprises. Through overseas school running and skills training, countries along the “Belt and Road” are publicized Chinese vocational education and exported to Chinese industry standards, and international cooperation brand of vocational education with “petrochemical” characteristics is built. Via multi-channel and multi-layer international exchanges and cooperation with universities and educational institutions at home and abroad, the college’s international level is enhanced and the openness intensity is strengthened. In addition, the college has successively carried out exchange activities, such as educational training, academic seminars, introduction and export of high-quality educational resources, study visits, study tours, government-sponsored CFL teachers to the Confucius Institute and overseas cooperation with the United States, Britain, Germany, Canada, Australia and other countrie, so as to broaden the horizon of international school running.
